The Miraculous Power of Acceptance

And how we can't fix things without it...

Hey there Christian mama.

Can we talk about something that weighs heavy on our hearts?

It’s about our older children, those who are struggling and seem to be walking a difficult path.

Maybe they're battling addiction, mental health issues, or simply going through a rough patch in life.

As mothers, we naturally want to swoop in and fix everything, right?

But what if I told you that sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is simply accept?

Acceptance.

It’s a word that holds immense power, especially in the context of parenting older children who are facing challenges.

It’s not about giving up or condoning harmful behavior.

Instead, it’s about acknowledging reality without judgment and loving our children unconditionally, just as God loves us.

Think about it.

When we accept our children as they are, challenges and all, we’re sending them a powerful message: "You are loved just as you are."

It’s a message of grace, forgiveness, and unwavering support.

Isn’t that exactly how God loves us?

Despite our imperfections, mistakes and struggles He loves us unconditionally, welcoming us with open arms whenever we turn to Him.

In the Bible, there’s a beautiful passage that speaks to the essence of acceptance. It’s found in Romans 15:7, which says, “Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God."

When we accept our struggling children, we’re not only showing them Christ-like love, but we’re also showing them how God feels about them.

But here’s the thing: acceptance isn’t just about our children; it’s also about us.

When we hold onto resentment, anger, or disappointment, we’re blocking the path to any healing.

It’s like building a wall between us and our children, preventing any meaningful connection from forming.

On the other hand, when we choose acceptance, we’re tearing down those walls and opening our hearts to healing, and giving our children the space they need to get better as well.

It always starts with us.

It doesn’t mean that everything will magically get better overnight, but it’s the first step toward reconciliation and restoration.

It’s about saying, “I may not understand everything you’re going through, but I’m here for you, no matter what.”

When my client Tricia came to me, she wanted me to help her know how to talk to her son so that he would change and stop being so rude.

However, once she started to accept him and all that he was currently going through, her heart changed, and she never had that talk.

Instead, she was able to show him the love he really needed, and that's when everything changed!

Acceptance is a journey, and it’s not always easy.

It requires humility, patience, and a whole lot of faith.

But trust me, mama, it’s worth it.

And your kid needs it more than anything right now.

So, if you find yourself struggling to accept your older child and their challenges, don't worry, you're not alone.

There’s a community of moms who understand the pain and the hope that comes with loving a struggling child.

And God knows you and can help you through it too.

Stay strong, mama. You’ve got this.
